Narda STS BFD-400-3: Isotropic measurement of magnetic fields from 1 Hz to 400 kHz

The new BFD-400-3 magnetic field probefrom the Narda FieldMan family is designed for high-resolution magnetic field analysis in the range from 1 Hz to 400 kHz. It supports Weighted RMS (WRM) and Weighted Peak (WPM) evaluationsin accordance with IEC/EN 62311 and IEC/EN 62233.

The measured values can be processed via the FieldMan base unit or streamed via USB with the Narda TSX software - with full access to all operating modes, including real-time live mode.

With its integrated isotropic 3 cm² sensor, the BFD-400-3 is particularly suitable for detailed investigations in development, diagnostics and maintenance - especially in confined or component-dense environments. Typical applications include source localization in control cabinets, PCB emission analyses, shielding evaluations, checking coupling paths near cables and fault detection in industrial systems.

In addition, the probe enables the determination of coupling factors according to IEC/EN 62233 Annex B, where high spatial resolution is crucial for exposure modeling.

Compared to previous 3 cm² probes (e.g. ELT 400), the BFD-400-3 offers significant functional improvements: digital signal processing with real-time FFT, integrated WRM/WPM evaluation, advanced filter options, USB high-speed streaming and a digitized, self-testing interface.

Although it is not intended for standard 100 cm² area couplings, it offers superior efficiency for targeted EMF diagnostics, design optimization and quality assurance.

The highlights:

Isotropic (non-directional) measurement with standard-compliant 3 cm² sensor

Shaped time domain evaluation (STD) - WPM and WRM - for all relevant international standards and directives, including Directive 2013/35/EU

Fast, seamless real-time spectral analysis

Spectrum mode with displayed limit value curve for all three measurement axes

Scope mode for triggered time signal analysis

Adjustable selective filters (bandpass or bandstop)

Digital probe interface - no calibration of the base unit required

Integrated probe self-test at startup

USB streaming directly to PC (no FieldMan base unit required)
